The Balanced Theatre Brat Series: Why Theatre Produces Successful Professionals

I’m a proud “theatre brat!” (A person raised in the theatre

I’ve performed, worked backstage, ran lights, directed, and have taught.  My BA is in Theatre, so one would assume that my career would be in the theatre. Somewhere.

That assumption would be WRONG. 😮(Yes, I still do community theatre when time permits)

Due to “life” and having to “adult” (bills suck 😒), I’ve tripped down a path in business.  I’ve often been asked in interviews “How did you go from theatre to being a product manager?” and my answer is always:

1. Really great mentors and people willing to take chance on me.

2. My theatre background has provided many valuable and unique skills that have attributed to my success.

3. I surround myself with people smarter than me, I listen to them, and I learn from them.

I can hear you thinking 🤔, “What are the skills you’ve learned in theatre that have made you a success in business?”

Whoa, no need to shout!!! 😉

I’ll tell you in “The Balanced Theatre Brat”  series:

  1. “The Show Must Go On” – Problem Solving
  2. “Everything Comes Together During Tech Week” – Stress Management
  3. Take direction, Damn It” – Feedback and Support
